One of the greatest lessons I've learned about success is to remain teachable. My business grew from the negative and the positive feedback from customers. Remembering words of wisdom from my elders that I didn't listen to --- taught me in later years the importance of being teachable. I can recall people speaking into my life telling me that I was qualified and destined to accomplish certain things, but my fear wouldn't allow me to believe it. When other people hold up a mirror for you to see your strengths and your flaws, it can be painful but it is also an opportunity for growth. I choose to remain teachable. A diamond cannot sparkle without being polished. So I am open to see my flaws and open to learn from others who see what I cannot see for myself. Ego, pride, fear, resistance, procrastination and holding on to past hurts are destroyers of success.
If you seek praise more than you seek growth, then you'll be out of balance. Learning from the input and insights of others is essential. A rose bush has to be pruned in order to grow more beautiful roses. The pruning may not feel good but the gardener knows it must be done or the rose bush never realizes its potential.
Have you ever heard an idea that caused you to feel uncomfortable because it challenged you to think or do something different? Or have you ever felt the move of God on your life to do something that didn't seem to make sense?
You may receive ideas that seem unattainable or beyond your cultural conditioning, age, faith, gender, race, finances or capabilities.
The charge and challenge for all of us is to remain teachable and open to what our parents, teachers, mentors and life are trying to teach us. Can you remain teachable and not resist how God is ordering your steps? Can you remain teachable by those who care for you and offer their wisdom and experience to you? Don't stunt your growth because of resistance. Don't continue losing time and repeating unnecessary mistakes. Once you are willing to be teachable and walk by faith --- and not by sight --- you will grow. A life of abundance, peace and joy awaits you. Ephesians 5:14 warns us to ---" WAKE UP, climb out of our coffins and to live in the light of our Lord".
